about me

Sufjan Bile is a writer, director, and artist based in the UK. Bile’s work explores grief, displacement, identity and what misbehaves under scrutiny. Their practice leans into distortion, contradiction, and ambiguity. They enjoy work that is ugly and uncomfortable.

Sufjan is an alum of Royal Court Theatre, Soho Theatre, and Maslaha writers labs, as well as the School of Cvntology. They wrote their first play know who you are at any age during the Royal Court’s Intro to Playwriting lab and later received an R&D at National Theatre Studio.

Their prose and non-fiction writing has been published in WORMS and gal-Dem, and performed at RichMix, Southbank Centre, and Goldsmiths CCA. Bile is currently working on their first novel.

Sufjan’s directing credits include Pleasance Theatre and Royal Court Theatre. They’ve worked with new writers as a director and dramaturg, and directed works-in-progress at BOLD Theatre, Bush Theatre, and Riverside Studio.

In 2026, Sufjan won the Groucho Club Writer’s Residency, in partnership with Write Club.
